I think Cat and Tate are on to the truth but they don't have the heart to break it to me. Cat told me a few weeks ago that one of her friends announced that there is no Santa. I told her that I thought he is wrong, and that it is very sad because when you stop believing in Santa, you no longer get presents from Santa. As long as you believe, Santa will bring presents, in addition to those Mom brings. Whether they believe in magic, or just extra gifts, they are continuing to humor me.
Tate did point out that Santa had some of the same wrapping paper we do and I had to "confess" that Santa, due to his busy schedule, often drops unwrapped presents and moms and dads wrap them for him. "So you are Santa's elf?" she asked. "Yes, I am officially one of Santa's elves."
Your story made me cry too. Between outgrowing Santa and outgrowing Disney Princesses, it has been a hard year on Mom.

What a special way to tell Mack, he will remember how tender you were when he has to tell his kids. What a wonderful mom.

Jill, Please don't have Mack pass on his new found information to Tanya. She still believes. By the way you are a great parent. As hard as growing up is on children it's even tougher on parents. Still I wonder if this is how Columbo and Monk got started.

Oh, Jill. This post just made me cry. I dread this happening. I almost dread it more than the sex talk. You did right. We all have to find out sooner or later that magic isn't real, but it's truly crushing.

Oh, it is indeed the saddest sentence.... "So magic isn't real." It broke my heart and brought tears to my eyes just reading it. But, of course, your judgment was sound. You pretty much had to do it. You're a good mommy.

Maybe you can remind him that the spirit of Santa is very real, even if it is manifested through the parents now days. That's where the magic lives. For a short time each year our hearts are transformed, and we morph into more loving, giving, patient, and kind people than we normally are.
